February 17, 201016 yr http://www.amazon.com/Cyberpower-CP1500AVRLCD-UPS-Display-8-Outlet/dp/B000FBK3QK I'm thinking of buying it, but my friend is telling me he doubts the LCD will work in unraid. Also, how exactly would I go about powering down my unRAID system when there's no power in my house? I always use unraid webui to clean down down, which that computer won't be connected to a UPS. Thanks.
February 17, 201016 yr Not sure about that UPS but plenty of people using APC UPS's :- http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=1528.0 just use a script to shut down the server when the power is out.

February 17, 201016 yr Author Thanks guys. I'll grab the APC. Anything I need to know to set it up? I've got unMENU and plan on installing the UPS package. Anything I need to configure to make it work well? Mainly.. if the power is out and the battery is low for it to automatically and cleanly shut down my unRAID server. Also if i'm unable to telnet to my server (since the power will be down for my other computer), if I install the clean shutdown package I can just press ctrl-alt-delete on the server's keyboard, correct?

Mainly.. to shut down if the power is out and the battery is low for it to automatically and cleanly shut down my unRAID server. Use the updated package manager plug-in and APC UPS package config file attached to this post: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=5323.msg49992#msg49992 un-zip it and put the two files in your /boot/unmenu folder where you put all the other unmenu files. The new package manager plug-in has the ability for you to set some of the more common configuration variables as seen in this screen-shot: Have fun. (you will be the second person to try the newer package manager plugin I've been working on) Joe L.

If you install the apcupsd package AND the clean-powerdown package it will shut down the server for you in an extended outage, before the batteries are depleted. You'll not need to power it down manually. There are three parameters in the configuration options I set up for editing. If ANY of them is reached, the shutdown will automatically occur. So, a shutdown sequence will begin if ANY of the following is true: If the percentage charge remaining in the battery goes below the set value If the run-time-remaining is less than the time set, (It usually takes a few minutes to complete a clean shutdown if you have a lot of disks) If the power has been out for the set number of seconds (It is an extended outage, and likely power will not return)
February 17, 201016 yr Author Awesome, what would we do without you Joe? I've installed the new package manager, and replaced the APC package with the updated one. I'll order my UPS soon, just need to wait for another paycheck.

Consider yourself a beta-tester of the package manager plug-in. (The new feature has nothing to do with the APC UPS installation, so it should work as expected.) Joe L.
