Windows 10 VM randomly rebooting

Featured Replies

Since upgrading from 6.2.1 (I believe) to 6.2.3 I have noticed my Windows 10 VM randomly reboots sometimes twice a day. I have three monitors on my desk, one is dedicated to the VM so I see it reboot, when it does, it reboots to the 'oops your computer experienced a problem' blue screen with the message, then reboots to the login screen and its fine, for a period of time. The computer running unRAID is in an open case sitting on the floor next to my desk, so I doubt its a heat related issue. The VM is running on its own dedicated SSD as well.

Hi Ash,

Can you please try booting in safe mode (disables all plugins) and see if you can recreate the issue?  You also may want to toggle the USB mode for the VM (from USB 2 to USB 3 or vice versa).  There are "unexpected events" in the libvirt log, but those messages are too generic to diagnose the issue and I don't see anything glaring in the syslog other than the large amount of USB resets we're seeing.

Thanks for the info. I am trying to reboot this Win 10 VM into safe mode but for the life of me I am unable for whatever reason. I have shut it down, edited the usb settings and toggled it to USB 3, we will see if that makes a difference. I will continue trying to boot into safe more.

I meant reboot unRAID (the host) in safe mode.

I knew that.... :o

So far it seems toggling the USB setting from 2.0 to 3.0 has done the trick, I haven't seen anymore of the random rebooting behaviour I saw before. I haven't yet rebooted unRAID in safe mode and removed the plugins.
