trionify Posted November 13, 2016 Share Posted November 13, 2016 Hi, I've been using VMs (Windows and Ubuntu) as my daily drivers for the last couple weeks and noticed there are audio lags occassionally when watching videos. It ends up where the audio is lagging behind the video by about 2-3 seconds. Only way I've been able to fix it is by resetting the stream. I've found it occurs on either windows or ubuntu, and happens with youtube or plex streams. Audio is using the 3.5mm jack plugged directly into the mobo, video is from the GPU. Is it really just delayed (increased latency) or do you also hear other audio distortions? I think it might have something to do with the way the sound card handles increased CPU latency to prevent distortions. Quote Link to comment

Deadpan110 Posted March 2, 2017 Share Posted March 2, 2017 I am also experiencing the same issue with a Windows 10 pro vm, audio seems to get ahead of the video and stutters with an occasional sound artifact. This is the same for all browsers and media players... hardly noticeable when watching a short vid but anything over 5 mins and the sync falls completely off. Shutting down the Windows vm and starting a Linux (Ubuntu and Mint) that is set with the same memory and CPU pinning has no problems at all (I currently shut down my Windows vm and boot my Ubuntu one when I want to watch Youtube or Plex but it is not the perfect solution). # The following is from my Ubuntu vm (same setup for Windows as I don't run them at the same time) model name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz 02:08.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04) 02:07.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GM107 [GeForce GTX 750 Ti] (rev a2) I don't use the audio on my GPU as my monitor has no audio out - I use my integrated audio controller. space Posted March 3, 2017 Share Posted March 3, 2017 Sounds familiar. Internal soundcard lags behind after a minute or two. External usb souncard has no issues (at the moment). Refreshing browser, and jumping the timeline resets the problem (for the next minute). repeat. Quote Link to comment
lonnie776 Posted March 11, 2017 Share Posted March 11, 2017 I also have this issue. I am running both video and audio through HDMI from a 980 Ti. I have enabled MSI on both the video driver and audio driver. There is still a sync issue. The audio is out of sync no matter what I am using, chrome, firefox, Plex Media Player. lonnie776 Posted March 22, 2017 Share Posted March 22, 2017 I was able to solve this problem on my system. The issue was shared physical CPU cores. The solution is outlined here. Basically just restrict the Unraid OS to certain cores (In my case physical core 0/virtual core 0 & 6) append isolcpus=0,5 initrd=/bzroot Put this into the Syslinux.cfg file on your boot flash drive.
