unraid seems to boot but unable to login

Featured Replies

I have been running my unraid for 8 months now and very happy  with it.

So spent all weekend dealing  windows update and then unraid update, finally got unraid 6.4 with default plugins,Docker with a plex app, rutorrent app and a stable windows 10 vm running. Everything worked great!

This is all very new and my head hurts but was happy I dealt with it. So here's the shitty I was looking at the plugins on the new update and I notice a plugin that checked for unused Dockers, so I ran it and my Bonic app came up and yes I don't want to use it so I let plugin delete it.

A Window popped up said it was removing app, waited 30 min and  screen didn't  change,  couldn't click on anything it was frozen. Shut power on computer tried  reboot and nothing happen couldn't login thru web Browser.

Tried to login on unraid server it seem to boot but when login came up, I could put in user but password part would not respond to keystrokes.

Tried the gui on server and was able to login on to first portion of limeTech gui but when firefox started it would not start server gui  but I had access to tools in gui and it seem like the server was running.

Right now I am running the memory test so far so go, but I thought I would start this cause I am at a lose and I am sure my system is fine but just dont want to make it worse. Cause I am good at that :(

Not sure what sys log you need but any I found seem to be out date. Any direction would be great. Be prepared for a lot of dumb questions.

Thanks for any help.

First thing I would do is pull the Flash Drive.  (Safe to do if you are still running memtst.)  Then run Chkdsk on it.  If it finds and fixes problem, recheck to see if you can now boot up properly.

If not, do you have a recent backup of your Flash Drive?  You could reformat your Flash drive, copy that backup over and run make_bootable.bat again.

K ran Chkdsk on usb drive and it did have errors and said it fixed them, but still wont boot properly check thumb drive it had errors again.

I added sys log from usb drive not sure if its up to date.

How would I get a copy of boot log. While booting I noticed a line say "Fs not properly unmount" and something about "Dirty Bit"

No I dont have a backup of usb drive. My bad :( . Lol I guess I will from now on.

Hmm looking at syslog looks like I have a problem with sshd "Nov 14 15:16:41 BEQUIET sshd[1764]: Received signal 15; terminating."

Now how do I deal with it?

syslog_Nov_14.txt

On the flash drive edit config/disk.cfg  change start array to be no.

You keep having out of memory issues.  Once up disable the docker service and possibly the VMs then go from there

K Awesome!

Got server running turned off docker and vm

still have same  problem.

Under Array Operation it says "Stopped. unclean shutdown detected"

So options should I:  Start array with polarity check(alrdy did, didnt work)

Reboot for system rest (didnt work)

Power Down for clean shutdown(my guess.didnt work)

Now running a parity check under maintenance mode guess I will get some sleep now and try again when its done.

Thanks for replies and any other ideas please let me know. Ty.

Make a backup of your Flash Drive NOW.  You can do while it is plugged into the server.    If you have problems making that backup, make sure that you get the contents of the root of the  config  folder and the  shares   folder.  Also, if the GUI is coming up, print out a paper copy of the  Main    tab with all of the disk assignments.  Then go to the Settings tab and get prints of the  Identification  and      Network Settings    tabs.  You might also want a list of the Dockers and Vm's that you are running.  (All of this is in preparations for a total rebuilt of your Flash Drive.  Always be prepared for the worst case.)

Now look on that Flash Drive at the root folder, does it contain a bunch of files that have a generic name?  If it does. that means that chkdsk just fixed  the file structure so that Windows could read the drive and some of the files are not right.

You also want to try to get a copy of the diagnostics file again.  There is different information contained in it each time something changes in the way your server is behaving.

Oh, for shutting  down the computer, try a QUICK press of the front panel power button.  I believe that option has been added to recent versions of unRAID.

How do I make copy of Flash drive on GUI or do I need to use a different program to get access to server from laptop?(Putty?)

I looked at sys.log again and it still hasent changed from the crash or is there I different log I need?

Made copies of Main,Identification,and Network.

Finished my maintenance  Parity scan now. It says my Array configuration is valid now.It fixed 2 sycn errors

just don't want to try anything until I get everything backed up

Use Windows explorer or click on the Network icon on the desktop and pick your server.  You will see the Flash Drive listed.  Start by selecting that folder and copy it to a folder on your computer.

If the GUI is up,  go to 'Tools'  >>>  'Diagnostics'.  That will generate the diagnostics file!  It will be downloaded to your computer.

Did you get a copy of the Flash Drive yet?  Open up Windows Explorer.  (I believe it is on your task bar at the bottom of your desktop.)  Then type    \\bequiet  into the address bar and you should see an icon named  flash.  Copy (Drag-andDrop) that folder anywhere on your computer (or even to your desktop).

Yeah I got copy of flash drive now

I looked through your diagnostics file and I didn't see anything that points to a problem.  But I am not a real Linux and syslog expert.  However three other folks have downloaded your file and, perhaps, one of them will find something.  My guess at this point would be the attempt to uninstall that Docker application went awry and remments of it may be still running so you can't shut the system down.

What may be the next step is to re-format the Flash ans reinstall unRAID.  But I would wait awhile to see if anyone else has a better solution.  You might want to read this article in case you have to do that.

As you read the WIKI, you will see the reason why that backup of the Flash Drive is so important.  And don't miss that link to 'Frank's short and sweet instructions' at the top of the WIKI.    ::)
