backing up cache

simple logistics question...

 

if i'm backing up persistent cache data to the array (like a VM image for example), do i need to wait for the mover, or will it immediately do the cache -> array transfer?

Mover isn't a backup function.  The purpose of Mover is to move data to the storage array which has been temporarily housed on the cache drive.  Once moved, the data is no longer present on the cache drive.  Mover runs on a periodic interval, typically every 24 hours.

 

If you want to backup the data on the cache drive then you want to copy it to the array, not move it.  Typically you're going to store VM images in a user share that resides only on the cache drive so Mover won't touch it, hence the need for periodic backup.  Look into the backup functions of the Community Applications plugin, that will help with a lot of what you might need.

Or if you want the VM data to be stored on the array put it onto a share that doesn't use the cache disk, but your write speeds will suffer.
