Sound Card Assignment: Multiple nVidia Video HDMI Cards... ??

Featured Replies

I couldn't find any posts about this...

I'm trying to set up my first VM... so obviously, I'm noob. I have a 1070 and 750 Ti and a shitty 8k something with S-Video/D-Sub.

So apparently, All THREE of these cards have recognized sound by unRaid, but while all but the 1070 are recognized in the Graphics Card dropdown, there are NO labels on the HDMI sound controllers...

So how do I determine which is which??? I want to assign ONE GPU with its sound to a VM... I don't want to "cross the streams"... And I don't want to make a mistake, because (being a noob), I fear the repetition of work and the possibility that I'm gonna F something up if I don't make the right choice...

When I last checked with two identical cards, it had the same order as in the drop down list for the video cards.

The first one is the onboard soundcard of the motherboard, so exclude that one.

You could also ad the audio and then go to edit XML and find the hostdev tag for the video card and the audio card and see if the PCI addresses match. The only difference is the 1 at the end on the sound part.

If this is blabbering to you, just copy the XML here and someone can verify it  :)

You won't really mess anything up by crossing the streams!

If you select one, boot up your VM and you don't hear any sound, just close down the VM, go back to the VM config and choose the other. You can change a lot of things about a VM between boots.
