Hardware/System Build

Featured Replies

New here and looking for advice for a new system build.  I had thought that I might see some links to pcpartpicker with recommended builds but after looking around I thought it might be better to just ask some advice.

I would intend to run the latest software and the main use would be NAS 1st, Backup, Plex 2nd.  Would be looking for a system that could grow over time and it will be installed in a Utility room so I can build a rack if that would make more sense.

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

You might try browsing the UnRAID Compulsive Design subforum to see what others have done. The Pimp My Rig thread there is kind of fun, probably best to concentrate on the more recent posts. Also, many users put their hardware specs in their sig so that is another way to see what others are doing. And there are some pcpartpicker links in the forum if you want to search for them. See How to Search in my sig.

Thanks for the reply.  I was looking they the UCD and Pimp but it was hard to get a sense of what a default build would be.  I understand that I might not be the typical case as I'm a developer that is looking for a solution and not really into hardware that much.

I think that as new people come it could be useful to have some default build configurations from the creators of unRaid to make it easy for someone to buy what they need and get started.  Say for example one setup for each use case they show on the site: NAS, App Server, Virtualization Host.

I think it would be very helpful for people to get up and running rather than trying to figure out a build that should work.
