Upgrading 6.1.9 to 6.2.4 freezes on reboot

Featured Replies

So I ran the internal update plugin and when I rebooted I couldn't get the webui to come back. I hooked up a monitor to my unRAID box and tried again. Everything works right up to "Loading BZROOT...OK" and then it just freezes on that screen with a blinking cursor under the BZROOT...OK

Copying the files back from the previous directory on the flash drive gets me back and running with 6.1.9. I even tried manually copying over the files for 6.2.3, but the same thing happened.

Any ideas?

Supermicro board?

  • Author

It's an ASRock Z170 Extreme 7+ board.

I had a similar problem when I first upgraded to this board. https://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=47103.msg451292#msg451292

I'm still using the Factory BIOS and I haven't tried it with a newer BIOS version yet to see if it's the opposite problem I had in the above link. Any other ideas on what could be causing the issue?

I fixed this once on an Asrock by clearing CMOS, why that worked I have no idea, it also worked for another Asrock user with the same issue.

Make double sure that you are plugging the Flash Drive into a USB2 port and not a USB3...

I did have it in a USB 3.1. I moved it to a 2.0 and no change.  I'll try clearing the cmos later when I have time to crack the case open. Any other ideas?

One thing to try.  Download 6.3.0 rc4 and use any flash drive make a bootable flash drive.  See if that will boot.  (There have been a couple of folks who found that 6.3.0 will boot when 6.2.4 won't.)  No guarantees, just  a suggestion.  (BTW, rc4 is actually quite stable. You can read the release thread for details...)
