Hello everyone,

 

I'm new here and new to UnRaid (no system yet) and hope to consolidate adn improve on what I have right now.

 

MY current hardware consist of:

 

My stuff:

• i7-5820K @ 4.5Ghz, 980Ti, 16GB Ram, 400GB Nvme, 2x500GB SSD Raid 0
  Asus X99-S, Corsair 780T, Watercooled on 2 360 rads (cause I could and had fun building it)
   
  
• Synology 1512+ (5x WD Red 3TB, Raid 6)
  
• Asus EeeBox B202 (was running Mint but recently died)
  

 

Wife:

• Samsung All-in-one (23.6" FHD Touchscreen, i5-3470T 2.9Ghz, HD7690M, 8GB Ram, 750GB HD)
   
  
• late 2011 MacBook Pro (unfortunate Black Friday buy, running Windows now)
  

 

We're returning back to Switzerland in the summer after 8 years abroad and so that's a good excuse for me to spend some cash on improving/replacing/expanding my gear for a clean/sorted new start.

 

Currently I'm contemplating getting/building a small rack and move all my gear in there and building an additional UnRaid box (NAS, Plex, VMs) and use the Syno to backup the UnRaid. Probably going to change my plan to some extent once I dig deeper and get some feedback from the more experienced.

Sure hope so

 

Building the box is the easy part, although I will definitely be looking for some advice regarding components, especially regarding the mainboard (read good things about Supermicro) and setting everything up.

Thanks, hopefully I can free up some time soon and have a go at unraid. Just need to figure out some small details first and get another disk or two.
