Updated 6.1.9 to 6.2.4, now slow startup and 5min load times on gui interactions

Featured Replies

Hello there, i´ve seen some forum posts from other users that also have immense problems with the slow web GUI, but their logs doesn´t match mine - i don´t see their errors.

I have first tried 6.2.3 and 6.2.4 for setup - and had the same problem with a slow startup (7min) and lag when updating the web GUI.

Both times a clean, fresh install from a formatted stick - always the same one.

Deleted the USB 3 Stick (SanDisk with 100 MB/s) - a full format under windows, FAT32.

Then installed the 6.1.9 version on it.

Startup to login took 1-2min - the web GUI was fast and snappy.

So with 6.1.9 everything worked as it should, could install an array and played around with some virtual machines.

Then needed a newer qemu version, that´s why i chose the update.

Did the update on the plugin site. No error messages while or after installing.

Didn´t change anything on my machine - the same disks (1 HDD, 2 SSDs), same bios options, router is the same, no firmware updates between the update.

I´m sure when i delete the stick and revert back to 6.1.9 everything will work again.

But i´m a beginner so i don´t want to mess with my RAID config files... i don´t want to lose everything i have already set up with 6.1.9!

Why does a fresh install of 6.1.9 work for fine - but a clean install (or update - tried all combinations) of 6.2.3 or 6.2.4 don´t?

5 minutes for a single page refresh – that´s insane...

I have an Asus Z9PA-D8C Serverboard, 8GB RAM and 2 x Xeon E-2670. One Ethernet port enabled, my routers DHCP is working fine for every device in my network. unRAID 6.1.9 could configure all network settings without any user input (if that´s relevant).

I thought 16 CPU cores would be enough to display a webpage in a few milliseconds :-)

What can i do in the command line to fix things? I can´t use the Web GUI - it would take days to go through the settings...

It now took me 40 min to save the syslog... What the hell did this update do? My ethernet setup was fine before!

PS: Was really impressed after i saw some video guides on how to run virtual machines with unRAID. Everything looked so easy - that´s why i wanted to try it! Wouldn´t mind paying for the upgrade. But if i have to wait a few weeks for the fix for this problem... How do users work with things like that when they need fast access to their files/vms? It´s frightening how one update can break everything...

Your syslog doesn't cover the time when you started the array, but it suggests a problem with a USB-connected device. Start the array and try to access the GUI and then grab your diagnostics again.

No that´s just my USB switch for keyboard and mouse - i switch between two machines.

My USB stick is OK - it´s new and formatting didn´t show any errors whatsoever. I think i will install 6.1.9 again, i´m certain it will work as it did before.

Maybe i can install just the new qemu version and avoid the 6.2.X unRAID versions.

I read the other posts concerning the same problem and the FAQ section, but they don´t really provide a lot of solutions for the slow Web GUI.

Just one very specific fix that is already implemented in 6.2.4.

Tried to access the server with two other devices (iPhone, iPad) and the loading time is also 5-7min.

I would really like to start the array right NOW but i guess it will take another 10min until the Web GUI is ready :-)

How can i output a syslog that has all the (current) info? Sorry for that, i thought the diagnostics zip would be enough.

Something strange happened - rebooted after i created the first post. Then started the array as you suggested.

Immediately after that i got this line:

/etc/rc.d/rc.libvirtwol: line 14: [: ==: unary operator expected

and now the web GUI works normal.

Does the array have an influence on the web GUI? I thought they would be independent processes.

Will use another harddrive for parity if that one already fails...

Sorry, another update.

Just rebooted and the boot process halts again at the line

sdb: sdb1

sd 1:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI disk

random: nonblocking pool is initialized

for about 3min. Then i can login.

Aaaand the Web GUI is as slow as before. Something is running in the background - stalling everything...

You need to replace that disk.

Thanks, will do that.

I´m planning to use two 500 GB HDDs for the array and the 250 GB SSD as cache. I don´t need that much space - all my bigger drives are connected to my main machine.

But this time i´ll test the disks for bad sectors/hardware errors beforehand.

Hope they still work...

Will report back once my array is back online!
