November 25, 20169 yr I get audio stuttering on windows 10 on one of my VMs which is running a gtx 970, on the 1070 VM the stutter happens much less often (every few minutes) whereas with the 970 it is constantly cutting in and out, I think it is freezing the audio stream and resuming it constantly (not pausing the player app), when I flip the 2 cards to the other pcie ports/vms then both have the audio strobing, this does not happen at all with the amd gpus when I test with those (idk which model number of amd card) the audio is using the cards dedicated audio over hdmi processors, on a non virtualized os in the same port the 970 has no issue with hdmi audio, I have tested with different cables/monitors in case those are causing the audio issues, no luck, I tried using the dedicated audio driver and an external audio card, but the ports for both are shared and ACS override (which I had to enable to get the cards to run in their own vms (they were grouped)) won't separate them (I think the devices share bandwidth with the sata controler) I disabled hyper-v in my attempts to fix the issue (because some reports the drivers refused to install with hyper v), and that didn't help, I tried uninstalling the nvidia hd audio driver, that fixed it, for 5 seconds then the problem comes back with a difference in timing between the cut outs, I tried using sound wire https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.georgie.SoundWireFree&hl=en to stream it to another device, the issue was fixed untill the latency counter in sound wire app/client showed it droping below 100ms then the issue was back! there is no riding myself of this issue ! any help is appreciated
November 25, 20169 yr Author btw, the motherboard is the asrock z170 extreme7+ http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z170%20Extreme7+/ and the pcie port is the very bottom one for the 970 and the 2nd to bottom one for the 1070 with the top port occupied by a card for the unraid head and the 2nd to top port linked to the sata ports (so unuseable)

November 25, 20169 yr Author I remember seeing some extreme stutters while my friend was gaming on the 1070 VM yesterday and on the constant glitch system (970) games and videos seemed slower than usual, but I wasn't sure, I think it might be a full system freeze during the audio glitching and not just the audio freezing?
November 25, 20169 yr I have no idea if this might be related, but just for grins you might want to try it ... In VMWare, some VM's have an audio stuttering problem that's related to a system timer being set to too long a value. This is most notable in XP VM's, but also happens with newer OS's in some circumstances -- and the little utility that resolves it works in all of the newer OS's as well, even though it's web page says its for XP virtual machines. It simply needs to be downloaded, and then set it to run automatically when you boot your virtual machine. In the VMWare machines I've used it for, it fixes the sound completely -- if you have a startup sound that may be slightly distorted until this utility runs but then the sound is perfect beyond that point. Again, this issue may be completely unrelated -- but certainly won't hurt to try this. The utility I use is here: http://www.lilchips.com/vmaudiofixtray.htm
November 25, 20169 yr To test it you don't even have to bother to set it up to automatically load. Just download it, and run it. If that resolves the sound issue; then set it to auto-start on boot. If not, then just delete the download
November 25, 20169 yr Author so I tried the vm with just the 1070 in the bottom slot (970 not in the middle slot) (without the vmware patch yet) and now it randomly freezes on a note/tone of a song and freezes the time on the player (the mouse still moves and the app still works otherwise) and repeats it, to "fix" it you have to disable the audio and re enable it in the playback devices menu, it comes back afterwards though. Changing the song does nothing, the now song stays stuck at 0:00 and the tone does not change, the player is google play music through google chrome, pausing the music does nothing, however and closing the player/chrome fixes it, and re opening it the music plays fine, until it has the same problem as the 970 vm, when playing the same song on a normal device, the audio is slower on the vm, getting 10 seconds for every 15 seconds on a normal device, I think this might be an issue between the synchronization of clock speeds and the quartz timer chip
November 25, 20169 yr Author so that audio fix didn't work I have realized that it is catching onto any application individualy and hanging it's audio (and blocking other aplications), so closing that app fixes the problem, temporaraly
November 26, 20169 yr Not surprised that it didn't resolve this, but certainly seemed worth a try. It certainly resolves a very similar issue with VMWare -- primarily on XP virtual machines, although I also had a Vista VM that had the same issue (which the utility resolved as well).

November 29, 20169 yr Author it worked with some fiddling, I had to identify the matching key for the audio device in the registry by the last digits in the key and then copy/make the keys for MSISupported in the matching key tree, then reboot and boom! btw here are the instructions (a direct link) http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=378044
July 14, 20187 yr Thanks a lot guys. I´m currently experimenting with setting up a virtual HTPC with a GT1050 for testing purposes and ran into exactly the same issue. Switching into MSI-Mode helped. :-) Actually, you can brake down the lengthy description in the links posted into: 1) Check if MSI is enabled with the MSI-Util. 2) Change Registry values for graphics card and related sound device 3) Reboot 4) repeat step 1) 5) Be happy Thanks again!
