GPU Passthrough Issues - Only OVFM problems, SeaBios is fine.

Featured Replies

*EDIT, see latest post SeaBios is now fine, OVFM not working*

Just set up a new UnRaid build and trying to set up a Windows VM.

I have managed to get the VM set up and working and can see that it runs through VNC but haven't been able to get the GPU to Passthrough.

I've only one GPU which is a GTX650. I don't have an onboard graphics. Mobo is Gigabyte x99-SLI. Vt-d and Vt-x has been enabled in bios.

I have tried putting it in different slots, I have tried dumping the vbios from it (however I don't think the vbios that gets dumped is right as it is around 58kb - I'm expecting it to be around 180kb). Also adding them to my XML doesn't seem to work either.

I've tried SeaBios and OVMF.

I've tried VGA and HDMI on the card. All with the same results. Nothing being output to the card!

I tried creating an LibreElec VM as a test and the GPU does seem to get passed to that as the video came up on the screen for that.

Any other tips on what I can try?

This is the log on the SeaBios VM

You need to dump the card when it's not used by unraid. So either use an old card as primary card (if you have) or put it in another computer that have another card.

Thanks, I don't have a spare card so will get my hands on one to see if I can get this to work.

I did try putting it in my old UnRaid build which had integrated graphics but the GPU wasn't even an option in the VM setup options. The dumps I did on my old UnRaid build were identical to the ones I am generating on my new build.

Just ordered a Geforce 210 which should arrive on Thursday so hopefully I'll get a little closer to getting this to work!

Ok, I have got another GPU. I have dumped the vbios again and it's come out at a different size so I assume it is a good one.

I have managed to get the SeaBios VM working without having to use the vbios. The OVFM VM doesn't work with the GPU being passedthrough, even if I use the dumped vbios.

Any clues on what I can try to get the OVFM VM working?

Does the OVFM VM have any benefits over SeaBios? Could I just stick with the SeaBios one?

Stick with what is working. I don't think there are any big differences performance wise.
