Hello, I am re-doing my unRAID system and need some advice about storage.

I have an HP ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 Entry Intel G1610T at the moment with 16GB RAM a Xeon CPU and a fair amount of storage.

I shall dissasembble this and move some of the gear to a larger Phantek Case with a NVIDIA GTX 1060, 32GB RAM, an Asrock SSI-EEB Dual Socket Motherboard with twin Xeon CPUs (Xeon E5-2670).

 

I have 2 questions:

 

A: Do I need 2 Parity disks ?

 

B: I have 2 Samsung 850 EVO SSDs, should I use these for cache disks or would it be bettter/safer with 2 X 1TB spinning HDDs ?

 

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you.

SSDs for cache assuming they have the capacity for your usage.

 

2nd parity becomes more important the more array drives you have.

I'll start with one parity HDD.

The SSds are 500GB each.

 

500 GB SSD should be plenty for any conceivable usage.
