December 1, 20169 yr I am having a strange issue. I am always asked for a username and password when trying to navigate to the server shares (both disk and user) through a dialog window even though I have no samba security set up. By dialog windows I mean stuff like the "save as"pop up window in Photoshop and other programs. It happens every time and if I just hit cancel I can continue navigating just fine. Although frequently the login box will pop up twice but cancelling on both works. A workaround I've found is if I navigate as far as possible in the left pane and then select the destination in the right pane it usually won't do it. But if I click save as in Photoshop (or any program) and then click on say disk5 in the right pane it will work for abouut 7-10 seconds and then ask for username/password). Everytime! The odd part is that navigating to and through my unraid shares in Windows' File Explorer NEVER does it no matter how I navigate it. I am running v6.2 but this has been going on for some time now over numerous versions for me. It has also persisted through multiple clean installs of Windows. Any idea on how to stop that?

December 2, 20169 yr Author I browsed that thread and it doesn't seem to be the same as my problem. First, my problem is not specific to user shares. Just clicking on the server name (WOPR) gives me this issue. Second, I have no users set up in unraid except for the default root. I also have all my disk and user shares set to public. So nothing on the server end is requiring a username or password. Finally, even though Windows asks for a username and password in certain situations, it doesn't make me enter anything. If I just click on the cancel button it navigates on in to whatever I was trying to access anyway.
December 3, 20169 yr Have you checked the Credential Manager on your Windows system (assuming you use Windows) to see if you have an entry stored for your unRaid system (with possibly an incorrect username or password in it). If there is one I suggest you try deleting it and see if that fixes the problem. I suspect that your Windows system is connecting to the unRaid system and by default trying the incorrect stored credentials ... They are failing so it puts up a dialogue for you to enter some alternative credentials.
December 3, 20169 yr You might try going to 'Control Panel' >>> 'Credential Manager' and see if there are credentials set. If so, delete them. What version of Windows are you using? (Be specific, i.e, Window 7s Home Premium) With these programs you are having issues with, are there any storage locations where a login is required when you access files? I am thinking in particular of cloud applications. What happens if you go the file using Windows Explorer, right-click on the file, select 'Open with', and pick your application from the list? Do you have multiple users on this computer? Were these programs installed by a user other then the user account that you normally use? What happens when you go to save a file back to the server after opening it? With Photoshop, what happens when you load a second file from the same folder after you went through this process of cancelling login info?
December 3, 20169 yr Author There is nothing relevant in Credential Manager. I am running Windows 10 Pro. The more I think about it, the vast majority of what I do when I notice this is saving files. The problme is not with the actual saving of the file, but navigating to the location to save to.I just did some testing and I don't seem to have any problems using the Open dialog with any programs. But if I use the Save As dialog then I get the issue. I never experience any issues at all in Windows Explorer. Here is a video showing what's happening: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/SX24XtaKoOg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Can't seem to embed a youtube video and posting it's lik just leaves a big blank space. So I jusat left the above so you can at least click the link.
December 3, 20169 yr Author You'll notice in the video that once I click on WOPR the the network location on the left are dimmed and I can't click on any folders on the right. It's like the system is working and hung. This does not happen if I click on any other network computer. Just the unraid computer. Also notice that once I click cancel on the credentials pop up I can go ahead and navigate my unraid server.
December 3, 20169 yr What happens when you save from other computers on the network? Do you see all of the Computers listed in the Homegroup? (Under the WOPR name in your video.) What is the Workgroup on this computer and is that name in all CAPS? (This should be done on both the computer and the server.) Have you ever used User Shares on the unRAID server? The reason that I ask is that User Shares is normally on by default and Disk Shares are turned off by default.
December 5, 20169 yr Author What happens when you save from other computers on the network? Do you see all of the Computers listed in the Homegroup? (Under the WOPR name in your video.) I don't save from any other computers in the house they are all just appliances running Kodi. What is the Workgroup on this computer and is that name in all CAPS? (This should be done on both the computer and the server.) The workgroup name is MSHOME and is in all caps. Have you ever used User Shares on the unRAID server? The reason that I ask is that User Shares is normally on by default and Disk Shares are turned off by default. I use both disk and user shares.
December 5, 20169 yr I have more idea that you might try. Is there an other computer on your network with a shred drive which is not an unRAID server that you can try to perform that save-as operation as a test?
December 9, 20169 yr Author Yes. I can navigate and save to other network shares without issue. I only get this problem with the unraid server.
December 9, 20169 yr Yes. I can navigate and save to other network shares without issue. I only get this problem with the unraid server. I would suggest that you re-read the link to the thread the LimeTech posted up about names and SMB. The reason being that I just had the same issue yesterday as you are describing (as near as I can tell) occur. I was setting up a user on unraid for ftp transfer and I used my name. As soon as I did and attempted to access a share on the user I got the login request. I then re-read the post myself and did a bit of investigating. It turned out that my user name on the Windows 7 machine was the same as the new user name on the server. (I have only a single user on this computer and it is without a password, so windows starts without a login screen. Even in this case, when I setup the computer back in 2010, I had to assign a user name in case I would ever want to add a second user.) You can check what your user name is by going to 'Control Panel', 'User Accounts' and find out all of the users names registered on your computer.
December 11, 20169 yr Author You think that's applicable even though I do not have any users created in unraid? Unless I misunderstood, that link (and what you experienced) all revolve around user names created in unraid and then having to duplicate them in Windows. EDIT: I figured I'd just try to add my Windows user name as a user on unraid and I can't because Windows in using my Microsoft account which is my full name including a space and unraid doesn't allow that.
