Parity drive and Plex Media Server Setup

Featured Replies

All, first let me apologize if I am not using this forum correctly.  Not only am I new to using Forums I'm a virgin when it comes to UnRAID.  BTW - first impressions of UnRAID is it is UnBELIEVABLE.  So enough schmoozing here is what I am trying to understand.

Let me start with my configuration (all is brand new);

i7-6950X

128GB DDR4

16 6GB hot swappable drives

LSI SAS 9211-8i HBA

Super Micro Motherboard dual GigE ports

512GM SD in M2 slot

Loaded and running unRAID V6.2.4

Questions:

1. I thought I would need two parity drives and I configured this way.  Do I need two if not what is the quickest way to rebuild the array?

2. This server will only be used as a Plex Media Server.  Does anyone have a template or advise on how to configure? Shares, Dockers, Vm's...

Anything else I should be thinking about as I configure unRAID?

Many thanks,

RS

2 cents. :)

With 16 drives, I would stay with dual Parity (14 drives for data) since your chances of a drive going bad or worse two going bad are higher with more drives.

Now for Plex, download the Community Applications plug-in (thanks Squid!). This will expose you to all the "recognized" Docker & Plug-ins available.  Then choose your Docker implementation for Plex (I use linuxserver.io version but the others are comparable). Then you can browser the Plex server group for that version you chose to get the right settings in place.
