Telnet on Mac terminal does not login root

Featured Replies

Hi there -

I'm scrubbing my head as I don't get any helpful error messages from the login.

telnet -l root <myServer> --> entering password (double checked it is entered correctly) --> long pause (5 sec.) --> Login failed.

Is telnet not enabled for root? If I use SSH it works like a charm.

I've also created another user using the web GUI. Telnet immediately terminates the session as the user is not allowed. This is pretty clear.

So, what's wrong (or I'm doing wrong) with telnet and root in unRAID 6.2?

2nd Question: As I created an user, how to manage rights (not file system) within Slackware? It's only within the shell, not within the web GUI? Or I'm just too blind :)

Thanks for helping a nooby :P

telnet IPADDRESS

don't enter your password but just hit enter/return

then type in root and hit enter

then type in your password

And only the root user can access the command line. The webUI users are only for network file access.
