December 3, 20169 yr What is the process for upgrading a dual parity setup. Not that I am going to be doing this anytime soon, but on my server that has dual 8TB parity drives, if I was going to replace them with 10TB drives, what would be the process?
December 4, 20169 yr Good question. My understanding is that the parity drives do NOT have to be the same size, as long as both meet the condition of being >= any of the data drives. ... so I'm fairly sure you could simply replace one of them with a 10TB drive and wait for the rebuild to complete; and then replace the other and repeat the process. You could, of course, simply replace both at the same time, but then your system would be "at risk" until the new parity syncs completed.
December 4, 20169 yr Community Expert This is watt I usually do, if the server data can be kept unchanged during the upgrade I replace both at the same time (while keeping the old paritys intact until it's done in case something goes wrong), if the server needs to be used and data changed during the upgrade then I do one parity at a time.
