Looking for some help with some issues/teething problems

Featured Replies

Hi all,  i recently moved over to unraid from OMV and must say i am happy with it on the whole, ease of docket setup etc however i have a couple of teething issues i need some help with

firstly i have set up a user share called movies, it uses 6tb disks 1,2,3,4 of my 15 disk array, i set the minimum amount of space allowed as 300gb but when i write to the user share, it is ignoring this limit and writing to the disk until it fills up. this is not a massive problem as i can manually move the files to a disk but is a pain as i expected it to fill up the disk to my limit and move onto the next one automatically.

i use dolphin to move stuff around as it is a  simple docker app that works for me, however i have noticed that if i go in the share mnt/user/movies. i have 3500 or so folders with files in (which is what i expect) but if i loook in disk 2,3,4 i find a duplicate copy of all of the folders but they are empty (so for example i havea film called avatar on disk1 which is in a folder called "avatar" i also have a folder on disk 2 3  and 4 called avatar but the folder is empty. Am i safe to delete these folders or do they need to stay, as when i move a folm from one drive to another i am always prompted if i want to overwrite the folder.

any help would be grateful thanks

Regarding your first issue you need to be aware that Split Level over-rides allocation method when selecting a disk for the files.  This may be forcing some files to a particular disk.  Without knowing your settings this cannot be confirmed - but if you provided your diagnostics (Tools->diagnostics) it would allow us to provide a more informed decision.

regarding the empty folders then they can safely be removed.  Not sure why they are being created in the first place unless it is somehow related to your Split Level settings on the shares in question.

Hi ive downloaded the config zip and there are quite a lot of files, do you want one in perticular?

in regards to the drive allocation, i have most free set up

300gb minimum free space

level of split is automatically only split the top level

included disks are disk 1,2,3,4

excluded disks are disk 5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13

use cache disk no

enable copy on write auto

the excluded thing, i know i dont need to do this but i set this to see if it would stop it

i have copied a number of files today to mnt/user/movies and they have made disk 2 go over the limit.

i dont use disk shares only user shares, and these are shared by cifs, no nfs or afp

When we ask for diagnostics we mean the whole zip file

Why? Turn on Help so you can see what this means

level of split is automatically only split the top level

included disks are disk 1,2,3,4

excluded disks are disk 5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13

You shouldn't set both include and exclude
