unraid freezes completely while starting Windows 10 VM // DMAR error

Featured Replies

Info:

unraid version 6.2.4

M/B: ASUSTeK Computer INC. - P6T
CPU: Intel® Core™ i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz
HVM: Enabled
IOMMU: Enabled

I have a properly working unraid server with 1 VM:

Windows 10 with GPU passthrough (and HDMI sound) and keyboard/mouse passthrough

If I add my onboard soundchip to passthrough and start the VM, I can see the Windows 10 bootscreen with spinning dots for a few seconds - then the whole system freezes; even the console local and via ssh. Hard power down is the only option at this point.

The VM was build only via webGUI - my working XML (without added Soundcard via webGUI):

The syslog output at the time of starting the VM is attached below - and might be the solution to the puzzle. But it's no hint for me - //Edit: except that after enabling device 0000:00:1b.0 (soundchip) there is an DMAR Error for device 0000:03:00.1 (GPU HDMI Soundchip). So the soundchips seem to interfere with eachother.

Does anybody have any idea or hint?

Would you happen to be running a virus scanner such as Avast in the VM? I had this same problem and turns out Avast installed some drivers that would conflict with the way the VM image file wrote to itself.

Fresh install of Windows 10, no other software installed except Chrome.

But thank you  ;)

So after extended research it seems the switch intel_iommu=pt might help.

What does this affect? Is this safe to do?

-----

Edit:

Now I configured an libreelec VM with GPU + HDMI sound + keyboard/mouse passthrough and got another DMAR error. This time for the GPU itself...

So, can somebody tell me more about DMAR?

-----

Edit:

Or should intel_oimmu=nopt be my option? In my understanding iommu=pt is default as off unraid 6.2
