How Low Will It Go? (AMD FX-8350) ?

Featured Replies

I have been thinking about building a desktop and was thinking of going with an AMD CPU (FX-8350). With AMD about to release their new Zen CPUs does anyone venture to guess how low an FX-8350 might go?  Fry's has the FX-8350 for $119 right now ....will they get even cheaper? The FX-8350 will actually be more than I need as far as processing power so I have no real interest in getting a newer Zen CPU.

$119 Must have a good price....sold out already  >:(

$119 was a good price...  1-year price history at PC Part Picker shows relatively stable price so just have to watch the sales before it disappears altogether.  Microcenter is showing it at $139.99 and they usually have the best prices on CPUs if you live near one (in-store only price).

FX chips really aren't worth bothering with now, not only is the CPU pretty slow, the platform is very old now.  Even the latest boards with the 970 chipset don't have all the bells and whistles of even a B150 board on the Intel side.  You're buying in to technology that's at least 4 years out of date, which is never a good idea.

You'd be better off with an Athlon x4 FM2+ chip and board, at least the A88X chipset was designed this decade.
