IOMMU Support

Featured Replies

Hi,  newbie trying to to figured out if my CPU setup is going to support virtualization.

Went into the BIOS and I turned on VT-x. I'm not seeing anything related to IOMMU. I have a Intel Core i7 980X. Says IOMMU is Disables in the unRAID info screen

Question is, how can I tell if my CPU or board support IOMMU? Additionally, is IOMMU required for virtualization?

My goal is to have one CPU running

The Core i7-980X doesn't support VT-d so it won't matter if your board supports it (unlikely).  Since you have VT-x you can run VMs, but you can't do hardware pass-through.  I'm guessing by MAME you mean an arcade simulator, and if you want to hook up something like that to a TV/monitor then you'd need to pass a video card into the VM.  If you were planning to RDP/VNC into the Ubuntu VM then that would work fine.
