December 11, 20169 yr hi all is it possible to reset my unraid setup to factory default without losing my data drives/parity. something has gone horribly wrong with plex and it wont play any sound on any films anymore, this is not a plex issue as ive used the same container on a different system and it is fine. i rebooted my server and my cache drive had dissapeared then i stopped and started the array and it was fine, but it seems something to do with the appdata folder that has gone wrong. is there any sort of instructions as i dont fancy losing my shares, thanks
December 11, 20169 yr Community Expert I think you almost certainly have misdiagnosed the issue in some way. "Resetting" unRAID can't possibly have any effect on this, unless by reset you mean to wipe out your plex installation (which you seem to think can't possibly be the problem). If you think there is something wrong with the appdata for plex make a copy of it somewhere and then delete it and start over with plex.
December 11, 20169 yr Author Hi I've already removed plex. Removed the folder in the appdata folder. Re set up plex and I continue to get the problem when re creating the docker or using the plugin. 8 I have the same version of PMS running on a windows v m and a standalone ubuntu server which both work fine. The problem seems to be an issue with transcoding however nothing will play apart from audio on plex home theatre on a mac. Plex on any other device refuses to work. I have 18 other people with plex player apps on different devices and no one can watch any video file. Seems to be transcoding related from the logs in plex but it's not been changed since I set up unraid. I've also removed the cache drive (where my dockers are kept along with plex metadata) trashed the ssd in another OS and set back up again with appdata only going to cache) I do not have appdata on any of my other drives. The only other thing I think of if there is permission issue hence the playback issue but emby server works without fault. All files that refuse to play wk play ok via cifs.
December 12, 20169 yr Community Expert You say it's not been changed since you set up unRAID. Do you mean plex used to work for you on unRAID?
December 12, 20169 yr Author ive had unraid for around 4-5 months and since installing the limetech plex media server docker, its been fine, the one thing that has been enabled is the auto update which i have done twice. i have plex server running on my backup system ive trawled the plex forums to see if an update broke something for anyone else but can not find anything less than 2 years old

I am having issues with Plex not being able to play back files and I tried reformatting my cache drive to remove the docker image and appdata folder and it still does not work properly. There has to be some kind of residual configuration folder outside of the appdata folder that unRAID is holding on to. Even after adding the plex docker again I am greeted by users in my plex home on the configuration page of plex. How does this happen on a newly installation of Plex?
December 12, 20169 yr When blowing out your installation of Plex, are you also deleting the Plex folder within AppData? If not, it will just re-install plex with your settings. At the very least, rename it to .old so you can revert back if it doesn't resolve the problem.
December 12, 20169 yr Author yes i am rm -r it from an ssh session, i also use dolphin docker as a gui for the file systems one thing i have noticed in the fix problems is this Multiple registration keys found While unRaid will operate with multiple .key (registration files) within the config folder on the flash drive (ie: For simplicity sake you have multiple valid registrations and are storing them all within the config folder, you will run into problems if you ever need to transfer one of the registrations to another USB stick, as unRaid will not know which registration file to transfer, and the incorrect registration may get blacklisted. You should investigate and determine which key belongs to which USB stick and only have that particular key on that stick i havent noticed when this happened but i am on 6.2.4 pro licence

I've noticed Chrome be a nasty culprit in keeping data when it shouldn't recently, even when forcing it to refresh. With regards to your registration keys issue, that's an easy fix. Remove the old license from the config folder on the flash drive and leave the latest one there.
December 12, 20169 yr Author ive tried multiple browsers and even tried it on a browser on a new vm to rule out he possibility of cached pages or data. so just to confirm plex server will play audio both in browser and some devices (cannot confirm them all but) amazon fite TV, amazon fire tv stick, roku 3, custom boxes with openelec plex on, mac mini with PHT, and they all get this same issue. transcoding is going to the cache drive via the docker settings. the only thing other that wiping the config on the unraid pen and starting again would be to downgrade PMS to a much earlier version as it may be specific to the docker image (im using linuxservers) however my original q of data integrity, how would this work if my usb pen died and i needed another (once i have a new licence key etc, how do i go about imported existing data drives and keep the structure of my user shares.

Back up the key file.) --- If a new flash drive, copy the key file down to the config folder (if available) and follow the process for a replacement key https://lime-technology.com/replace-key/ --- If the same flash drive, put down the key file in the config folder after putting unraid back on it 3) Go through the normal settings you would change (IP address, etc..) 4) On the drive page, match the configuration to the configuration you took a screenshot of in step 1 5) Start the array (you may have to check a box saying parity is already valid) 6) Go to your shares and make sure all your settings are correct (use cache drive, etc..) as these won't carry over ^ - I did this a couple of months ago when I replaced the usb flash drive on mine, I believe these steps are accurate. If anyone notices anything off, please correct. Thanks!

This is because users etc are linked to your actual plex account on the web, go to plex.tv and login. you will find you can add and remove users etc without having a server attached. also if you find issues with multiple servers in the list that you connect to, then click on them and remove them in the web page, them when you log into plex on any device, it doesnt show all the failed/old/ servers

I'm just boggled by how a new Plex docker setup can present me with my home users on first boot without me logging into my Plex account. This even happened after I reset unRAID and reassigned my drives. Anyways, I didn't mean to try and take over your thread but I think my issue stemmed from my media being in a corrupted user share. Creating and moving my tv shows into another user share fixed the issue.
December 12, 20169 yr Plex permeates your home network in just about every device. If you're using a Plex docker and you delete ALL your appdata and remove the container & image, then any information that is remaining is from the Plex server & browser caches you already have.
December 12, 20169 yr Author Thanks Groxypod for this Plex is now playing everything it should be although i didnt need to do anything with the key, just copy and paste the link in again one thing though. i took a snapshot of my old pen image to i can investigate the issue.

You're welcome. The key is just a precaution and mentioned since you asked if your usb flash drive died If you're using the same flash drive, using the link again works perfectly because it is tied to the GUID of the device. Hope everything continues to work well!
