December 12, 20169 yr Hey guys... After about a year of on/off wanting to build a server I finally took the plunge and have now had a server running for 10ish days and so far enjoying learning some new stuff. For the most part the server is being used to host my modest Plex library and serve as a backup location for files and a number of PCs in the house through CrashPlan. In the near future the plan is to run an automated handbrake workflow for encoding my library and an internal development environment utilizing docker. I used PCPartPicker to help config the system and have included the full parts list below. The case was from an older desktop build and the SSD was a spare I had laying around after a recent desktop upgrade. In the near future I'll be upgrading the cache drive to an m.2 drive and adding another 3tb drive. Thanks and see you around the forums.
December 12, 20169 yr Author Should also add that I added a UPS to the network during the server build. The modem, router and server are all connected to this UPS and I found it really nice and simple to get it connected to the server to shut down at a specific point.
December 12, 20169 yr Welcome! As you probably already know, this forum is very helpful, so don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
