Hard drives physically fell in the case now one drive is unmountable

Featured Replies

I have a tool-less case and something must not have been fully secure and I had a HDD fall in there, not sure if it was the one affected, but now I cannot start my array because this drive says it is un-mountable.  The error check app told me to run the scan, but my only option was to format it....  I restarted my computer before getting the syslog like an idiot... I will attach what I have, though.  Thanks. I do have a syslog from a few days ago that I can attach.

Was it powered up when it fell?

I'd run a SMART extended self-test on it and if it passes I'd check the file system. If it fails I'd replace it and then run a file system check. Do not format it. To do a file system check you need to start the array in Maintenance mode.

When I am in maintenance mode the only option is to format the drive, is it not on the main page?

You need to open the disk's own Settings page by clicking on the text "Disk 1" or whatever, at the left side of the Main page of the GUI. From there you have the option to run a file system check, but only in Maintenance mode. I'd do the SMART self-test first though - from the same Settings page.
