December 16, 20169 yr OK, I'm a complete newbie to unRAID, but think this is the solution I was looking for. Everything set up correctly and was easy to navigate. But, then I installed some of my larger drives and I started having problems. I installed 2x 5TB drives with the thought that one would be the parity disk. But, I found that unRAID was only showing these as 2.2TB despite the bottom of the screen showing that they are 5TB drives (see attached screen shots). I tried reading some posts on this and it seemed like there was a 2TB limit until you purchased a license. So, I purchased a license thinking that I would automatically start seeing the extra space on these drives ones properly registered. Turns out, that is not the case. Still at 2.2TB after a reboot. Am I doing something wrong? Do the drives need to be re-formatted or re-partitioned? Any help is appreciated. Motherboard: Intel - S5000PSL with currently 8GB memory (I will be upgrading) Thank you in advance. Carl
December 16, 20169 yr Most likely, the onboard SAS / Sata controller (ESB2?) only supports up to the 2.2tb (not an uncommon occurance the older you go). Possibly a BIOS update might help, but you're probably going to have to add in a PCIe HBA
December 16, 20169 yr Author OK, thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I had previously thought it was a setup problem, but it seems like I have a hardware limitation now. My mainboard has this SAS chip embedded: LSI SAS1046E Founnd elsewhere on the web in relating to this controller: "The big problem with the 3Gbps cards is the 2TB size limit." So my next question leads me into new uncharted territory: What should I be looking to buy for my server? Assuming an SAS card of some sort? Thank you for your quick response and in advance for any other help... Carl
December 16, 20169 yr I personally use a SuperMicro SAS2LP-MV8, but most LSI based controllers will work (just need to flash them to IT mode) Just look in the hardware sub forum and you'll see lots of recommendations
