Access rights changed?

Featured Replies

I updated to 6.2.4 yesterday evening and now my mediaplayer can't access any SMB shares anymore. It gives a message not accessible possibly a problem with access rights. It tries to connect as user guest. This works on another unraid server which is still on 6.1.9.

Nothing in the update should have changed any access rights. Probably something else going on and that is just a misleading message from your mediaplayer. I don't know anything about your mediaplayer.

It is a Dune Solo 4K mediaplayer which used to work fine upto 6.1.9. In fact I still have no trouble playing movies from my test server which is still on 6.1.9. When I browse to a SMB share on my server I just get a message saying Network resource is not accessible You might not have access permission. Username guest Password is empty. Again, I could browse to a share earlier on. I attach diagnostics.

Not sure what is happening.

I have a Dune Solo too and it connects fine to both my unRAID servers (running v6.3.0 and v6.2.4)

Didn't have to do anything specific when upgrading to the later version.

Did anything in the Security Department change? My Solo 4K plays movies fine from Qnap NAS and other unraid 6.1.9 server but not from my mainserver running 6.2.4. Should SMB Extra under Settings SMB be empty or should it contain some lines?

Try Tools -> New Permissions and see if that makes a difference. Nothing has changed security wise.

But are there any lines in SMB Extra? Possibly SMB is updated which has changed something?

Can you access the shares from your PC?

Yes, I can. It runs Windows 10.

There are some performance issues with newest samba, don't know if it help with your issue but it doesn't hurt to try, add to your SMB extra settings:

max protocol = SMB2_02

Stop and re-start array, you may need to reboot clients to regain access.

Thanks, I'll try. Is this SMB extra usually blank or should there already be some lines in it from 6.2.0 and up?

  • Community Expert

It's blank by default.

You were right, it didn't help with my issue.

I can only access the shares by IP address, not by server name like Tower. So I create a Network map on the Solo under Sources pointing to the IP and share.

Sounds like maybe you're just having the usual SMB Name issue. Is one of your servers the Local Master? You might just need to wait a while for the Name to appear at your mediaserver.

  • Author

The server it has trouble accessing is the local master.

I disabled the SMB server on the Dune Solo and now it can browse and access the shares on the unraid 6.2.4 server. This isn't necessary for access to my test server which runs unraud 6.1.9.
