Temporarily Use An External HDD Enclosure As A HDD Backplate replacement?

Is it possible to use an External HDD Enclosure via USB3 connection in place of a HDD Backplate Cage that has a bad slot in order to restore the array into a protected state again?

Looking to do this as a temporary fix until the replacement HDD Backplate Cage arrives.
