Boot Failed. EFI Hard Drive after VMWare VM conversion to KVM

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I've been searching through the unRAID forum (and various Google searches) regarding an issue I'm seeing after performing VM conversion. I've moved from an ESXi 6 setup to unRAID KVM, I have various Win 10 Pro VMs that are VMDK files which I want to convert KVM usable IMG files.

I followed the unRAID support video "How to convert a VM from VMWare to unRAID KVM" to the letter and when I attempt to boot these Win 10 VMs, I get an error at start up "Boot Failed. EFI Hard Drive" after which the UEFI interactive shell appears.

I've run these VMDKs through the qemu conversion process using this command: "qemu-img convert -p -f vmdk -O raw HTPC.vmdk HPTC.img". I've also edited the VM XML file accordingly.

I'm not sure what the problem is, if someone could provide some tips that would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I stumbled upon a post where someone suggested changing the BIOS setting to SeaBIOS. This seems to have done the trick.

Just an FYI to anyone else that comes across this problem.

Thanks anyway!
