March 4, 201016 yr Sometimes i'm losing my connection with Unraid (4.5 beta 13). It says: The networkname is no longer available. That's what's happening sometimes when i''m transfering files or watching movies. What could this be? I have a gigabit connection with cat5e cables and i'm sure my disk is up. (not blinking green/standby) Also parity is valid 0 errors. I hope someone can help me out. Thanks.
March 4, 201016 yr Hi there, I'd firstly update to the latest unRAID OS, which is 4.5.3 now. Just replace the bzroot and bzimage files, restart and fingers crossed, let us know how you went. Cheers!
March 4, 201016 yr Author Thanks for your reply, downloading 4.5.3 now. Just have to wait a bit 55kB/sec. Anyway i hope it solves my problem. I will post my findings here.
March 4, 201016 yr Author Same problem with the update, however...it's probably the disk that's the issue. I tried transfering the same file i tried earlier to disk 2 this time. And it all worked fine. However this could be a coincidence, so i'll try it a couple more times. But let's say the disk is the problem, how do i check/fix this. Defraggen or something like that? Sorry if this going a bit offtopic but i'm just trying to figure out the exact problem. Edit: so i tried copying the same file i could copy to disk 2 to disk 1 again, and i didn't work again, it stops at the same moment (filesize 10,6 gb stops at 8,3 everytime). So the last thing i can try is tranfering some other movies to disk 1. I think it's very strange... So if someone has a tip or something i should try please let me know cause i'm running out of options.

See this in the wiki for instructions on how to check the file-system on a disk: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Check_Disk_Filesystems There is no "defrag" needed on a reiserfs file system. It does a good job of keeping files contiguous.
March 4, 201016 yr Author Thanks for the reply Joe. L. i'll read the wiki. I just tested a different file to transfer to disk 1 and it worked. So this has become the weirdest problem i've ever had.
March 4, 201016 yr Hey mate, are you just copying or moving the file? if you're trying to note the file it could be a permission-based problem. if you're copying the file, it might be stuffed or bunke have a virus, and the virus scanner could be stopping you to copy the file, that's if you're using a Windows PC to copy/move the file. i've came across this before. Good Luck!

Good Luck! Thanks again for your reply smnas, i tried moving a file i downloaded from my windows xp sp3 client to the server. But i don't think the file is the problem since i was able to transer the file to disk 2. I guess it's just randomly stops transfering. And i also believe that i'm having the same issue when watching a movie on another pc (linux htpc with xbmc). Sometimes during a movie it just stops. Then i click on the remote to resume the movie and i can watch again. Very strange. Thanks anyway for all the input, i will try some things out the next few days, in meantime any suggestions are very welcome offcourse
March 4, 201016 yr If you're leveraging off a Router/Switch from Client to Server(s), could it be a dodgy networking device running a muck. I'd run a test to test network packets too and from your client(s) to your server to see if it drops any off, or perhaps run a continuous ping stream, eg: In CMD under Windows, run a "ping -t MYSERVERNAME > C:\pingtest.txt". Run this test for about 2 hours and see if you get a interrupt in the ping packet tests. Run this test to different clients to different servers for a good overview. This will be a long text file, but look out for any "Unreachable" messages. If you get a heap of these, it could indicate a disruption on the network. Also run a direct connection to and from the client and server and test again. Just an idea to rule out any inconsistency with the networking side of things. Cheers!

Allright let's ping for 2 hours now. But what do you mean with unreachable messages, something like time above 10 ms or someting like that? Because now it's: bytes=32 time<1 ms TTL = 64. Also i hope i don't have to apply the last tip you gave (running a direct connection from client to server) because i don't have any idea how to do this. But i'm confident that there's a wiki for that so eventually i'll figure it out So keep you updated on the ping test.
March 5, 201016 yr Ah mate that is simple, if both your unRAID server and client have 1Gbps NICs, just get a CAT5e or CAT6 patch lead, run one connection from the unRAID to the client, both them both, make sure both client and server have static IP addresses and in the same subnet (eg: 192.168.0.2, 192.168.0.3) and run the tests again. Good Luck mate!

Good Luck mate! Aha well i have dynamic ip right now but i think i can figure that out. Right now i'm checking the pingtest and sometimes i see the time going from 2 till 5 ms, but mostly 1 ms. Is that okay or should i look out for any weird messages like: no connection or someting like that? Anyway i must say you are very fast in replying
March 9, 201016 yr Author Allright a little update after some days testing: Here's what the windows logfile gave me: W32Time - the system time has been 49152 seconds by the time service not syncronised because non of the time providers are able to provide a timestamp. The system clock is not syncronised. Dhcp - This computer can't renew the network address (from the dhcp server) for the network card 020000000102. The following error: the time-out periode from the semafoor has expired. The computer will continue to try getting an address from the networkaddressserver (dhcp server). I really don't have an idea how to solve this but here's my 'old' situation: downstairs: Modem> Sitecom WL-342 router> mediacenterpc1 Upstairs: Sitecom WL-120 switch> mediacenterpc2, PC1, Unraid server. Downstairs mediacenterpc1 works flawless, no hickups or movie's that stops. Upstairs: sometimes during a movie (mediacenter pc2) it stops. And PC1 loses also the connection sometimes during downloading torrents and tranfering files to the server. So my guess is that the switch is the problem so here's what i did: Downstairs: Modem>sitecom WL-120 siwtch>mediacenter pc1 Upstairs: SitecomWL-342 router>mediacenterpc2, PC1, Unraid server I have internet, i am able to download torrents directly from PC1 to the Unraid server, however my disks don't show up on my network locations. However when i click on a torrentand do: open belonging map. Than i can browse to all my disks. And my last option is: i have a spare wl-342. I tried using it but it seems like i can't use 2 routers because the second router doesn't get an internet connection. So i'm kind of desperate right now on how to solve this. If anybody got an idea how to get this right, please let me know.
March 9, 201016 yr Had the same issue sometimes and I finally traced it to a bad cable, worked 95% or better but had me scratching my head for awhile. Running 4.5 Pro
