December 30, 20169 yr I read an old guide that referenced that Unraid can't join an Active Directory Domain if the Server is a VM running on Unraid itself. Is this still the case? For whatever reason when I initially setup Unraid and the VM (Server 2016) Unraid was able to join. Is there a way to make this work?
December 31, 20169 yr It is not very common to run AD on unRAID. Perhaps you need to wait a little longer for an answer from someone using it.
January 7, 20179 yr Author It is not very common to run AD on unRAID. Perhaps you need to wait a little longer for an answer from someone using it. Gave up waiting, so here's what I did for those that find this thread: Unraid initially did join the domain that was setup as a VM on unraid but it wasn't reliable. In fact not having the VM up while unraid started up, the lack of a DNS response greatly slowed down the webgui (even from the IP). I then decided to setup a second DC on a different VM on another computer and pointed unraid at that for dns and all seems well. My setup: Physical Machines: Unraid: 128GB of Memory 6 Core i7 3 256GB SSD Cache Pool 3 4TB HDD Array + 1 Parity 4TB Dual GTX 1080s (not in SLI) Second Computer "TV Computer": Quad Core i7 256GB SSD Asus ROG Impact Windows 10 Pro VMs: Domain Controller "DC1" Server 2016 Standard 32 GB of Memory Windows 10 (Gaming) Windows 10 Pro 60GB of Memory GXT 1080 Windows 10 (TV Setup + KVM over Ethernet, Specifically for Steam Library) Windows 10 Pro 20GB of Memory GXT 1080 Secondary Domain Controller "DC2" (Hosted on TV Computer) Server 2016 Essentials 4 GB of Memory Installed as a Windows Service using VBOX Headless
