January 1, 20179 yr I'm having an issue with slow internal transfer speeds (aka disk1 to disk3, etc). To troubleshoot this issue I disabled the parity and cache completely, but it's the same problem. Basically the server seems unable to read and write at the same time based on the HDD activity lights, it will read from one disk for a few seconds then write to the other. Never at the same time. I have tried transferring both internally via midnight commander and via a windows computer across a 10G network. The Windows transfer shows about ~30MB/s, which will burst into 140MB/s every few seconds but then go back down to 30MB/s. I have tried multiple drives, all are under 50% full and HD speed test shows read/write at 120MB/s+ from individual drives. Transferring from the server to a windows computer results in a steady 130-140MB/s. Any idea what is wrong? Running 6.2.4, specs in sig. The drives in question are 4TB Western Digital Reds.
January 1, 20179 yr Author It appears related to nr_requests tunable setting. I set it to 8 as recommended by SAS2LP users for parity check speed, setting it back to the default of 128 fixes the problem but then my parity checks are slow. =/
