January 4, 20179 yr I have a bunch of movies, terabytes worth that I would like to permanently delete. I've done a few via Windows but it takes a long time. Just wondering if there's a faster way? Is there a docker or plugin by any chance?
January 4, 20179 yr Are you comfortable with Midnight Commander? It's fast and will recursively delete sub-directories...
January 4, 20179 yr Drop down to the terminal, and run midnight commander mc Then highlight the folder you want to delete and press F8 Quickest file manager I've seen on Unraid.
January 4, 20179 yr Author Hmm I just tried to putty into the tower. The id is "root" but what's the password? It is there still no password? I tried without a password and it didn't accept it and I don't recall changing it...
January 4, 20179 yr I have not tried mc yet but I have used the Dolphin docker container. It's a little slow and clunky (I have low powered micro server) But it does work. However when deleting a lage number of files I would get an error saying the recycle bin is full so pressing shift + delete will skip the recycle bin.
January 4, 20179 yr The password is whatever you set it to be in the webui. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
January 4, 20179 yr The root password starts off as blank (no password) unless you changed it at some point.
January 4, 20179 yr Author No haven't changed it. In the Webgui it's blank. but I can't putty in with a blank password. I enter in ROOT as the user, and hit enter for password. Doesn't accept it. Should I try to add a password in the webgui and see if that works?

Is there a docker or plugin by any chance? Are they the only files on the whole drive? If so, just change the format type in the disk properties, and when you start the array it will show the drive as unmountable and ask to format it. That is indisputably the fastest way to empty an entire drive, if that's what you want. Note, the files are likely still mostly recoverable, any way you choose to delete them. If you want to wipe the entire drive so the files are really gone, dd'ing zeroes to the mdX device is probably fastest.

Should I try to add a password in the webgui and see if that works? If I recall, I think that means a password is already set. If you don't have a password after you type root and hit enter you get right in, without prompting for a password. Try to update it in the webgui.

January 4, 20179 yr Author Turns out the issue was ROOT and not root. I didn't even notice that my keyboard was defaulting to caps when logging in via Putty. Much thanks! Can someone remind me how to tag a folder in MC. I want to tag a number of folders for deletion.

January 5, 20179 yr nope, that doesn't do anything... Works for me, just deleted two directories to make sure I wasn't going mad. You have a dedicated insert key? Wonder if you needed shift or numlock or something?
January 5, 20179 yr Author Figured out I had to be on the right hand side to use INS to mark...but it's working now! Thanks
January 5, 20179 yr Author Hmm still not working actually...now I also think I screwed up my view and can't get it back to the default view even after exiting....arrrrrrrrrrrrrr When you mark a folder, does it indicate so?
January 5, 20179 yr Author Ok it is working. It turns a slight yellow color which is really hard to see so I ran a test and it did work.
