March 5, 201016 yr Can someone give this board a quick look for unRAID compatibility? I'm looking for an inexpensive MB for my unRAID system. This one has 6 sata ports. I bought a different board that was supposed to have 6 ports but due to manufacturing revision it now only has 4. So I was looking for a 6 port board for low budget build. March 6, 201016 yr Author I'm also looking at this one. Any opinions from the braintrust really appreciated. ASUS M4A78LT-M LE AM3 AMD 780L Micro ATX AMD Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131619 Chipsets North Bridge AMD 780L South Bridge AMD SB710
March 6, 201016 yr Either board should work fine. The second uses a realtek chipset for the Lan and should work fine. the Realtek chipset is used more often in unRAID boards but the Atheros is listed in the Hardware Compatibility Page also.

The Asus manufacture page says it's using Atheros AR8131 PCI-E Ethernet Controller (not a realtek chipset). I downloded the manual and it says the same. http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=exJL00uovTJaDqxR The hardware compatibility page says the Atheros AR8121 is working in 4.5beta6. But what about Atheros AR8131?

March 7, 201016 yr Author Ummm, what I would rather do is ask if the driver that was added to unRAID 4.5beta6 (by Tom I presume) to support Atheros AR8121 also provides support for AR8131 -- before I buy a motherboard that needs it. I found a reference to a driver ( AR81Family-linux-v1.0.1.4.tar.gz ) but I'd like to know what driver went into the unRAID build. https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-laptop-and-netbook-25/atheros-ar8131-fedora-10-linux-788000/ Edit: Please can some linux savvy person check what Atheros driver is in the current unRAID build?

Your best bet is to email limetech, he should know what driver is in there.
March 8, 201016 yr Author Maybe I found one that has good chipset and lan adapter. I've never bought an open box item before so I'm hoping I'm lucky and nothing is wrong with it.
