How to add UNRAID content to uPnP Mediatomb server?

Featured Replies

Hi. I am very novice when it comes to linux. I have just built up a NAS using UNRAID and installed Mediatomb successfully. Now, I am trying to add my user shares containg media to the Mediatomb server using absolute paths or local/remote URLs without success. I would appreciate very much if somebody could guide me in the correct direction.

- MEDIATOMB is intalled at the flash drive's root /MEDIATOMB

- and the content at the user shares which I want to add to the Mediatomb server's database is e.g. /mnt/disk1/music

with many thanks.

Well first of all to access the "user" shares it's not under /mnt/disk1/music but instead you would go under /mnt/user/music. That way it will give you everything from all drives.

You have MEDIATOMB installed now just go to it's web interface and add some directories. If you have specific questions about Mediatomb feel free to ask them. I have it currently set up on a computer for use with my PS3 so I have gone through this before.

Thank you. I managed to add the content using the file system. All audio, photos and videos went correctly except:

1. Music, photos all went under proper directories with regard to date, album etc. However, the videos are added as separate items not folders. I.e if I have a dvd rip within a folder let's say MOVIE_1 and its subfolders VIDEO_TS and related vob files, all are listed as separate files. How do I import these so the vobs go uder correct folders (ie. the folder hierarchy is maintained)?

2. I managed to add these items via the file system. So, I found the desired source under file system/mnt and clicked + sign. The items went under correct folders like video/audio/photos in the database. However, if I create a container manually within the database and try to add a directory to it using the local path /mnt/user0/source_folder, nothing happens and I get the following message: http://UNRAID_IP:49152: Error:file not found! How can I add a directory (from /mnt/user0) to a container I created manually in the database?

3. Finally, after everything was set up, I needed to reboot the UNRAID server, and noticed that everything in the Mediatomb's database was gone. What did I do wrong? Is it so that with reboot the content must be defined over and over again?

3. YES / NO -- it depends on how you setup mediatomb. unRAID's main filesystem is setup in ram. It gets wiped every time you reboot. Did you configure mediatomb to write it's files to a physical disk (/mnt/disk#/ or /mnd/user) or to the ram filesystem (everything else)?

As far as I understand, the entries are written in the database file (mediatomb.db) which is created in the FLASH disk at root/mediatomb/config directory. Before reboot, the database was 15.7Mt, after reboot it was only 1Mt, which indicates that it was overwritten?

What is the fully qualified directory name (with a leading /) ? If you mean /root/ on a running server, that too is part of the ram filesystem.

There's one other thing that might be happening. The key would be seeing what is written on the flash drive when the system is powered off and read from another OS. If the mediatomb.db exists on the flash drive when powered off, then maybe the install process overwrites it or recreates it on every reboot.

Sorry, it was "/boot/mediatomb/config" not "/root", so I assume it is not a part of the ram file system? I will check by doing a reboot, however, does not like the idea of going everything over again :(

Ok. I did it. The database is intact. So, it is not overwritten this time. Last time before the reboot I stopped the mediatomb by "killall mediatomb" command in order to avoid the sync problems of the parity drive mentioned at these forums. This time, I just sopped the parity and rebooted. It is up and running.. :)

Any answers/suggestions to #1 and #2 or is it a shortcoming of mediatomb that video files cannot be organised?
