January 8, 20179 yr I was poking around for various ways to nuke entire hard drives. Found a nice open source drive nuker, but writing zeros to a 1-4TB hard drive can take hours! A friend pointed out that if the drive is encrypted, and you erase the encryption keys: boom, it's all toast. Easy and fast. I was thinking it would be fun to rig some road flare thing with a rocket igniter... Any other thoughts? http://www.dban.org/ http://www.runcore.co/en/NewsShow.asp?ID=262

January 9, 20179 yr Author Uh-mazing. You have solved all life problems. Actually, my favorite solution is the 12 gauge shell. No fire in the house, already prebuilt - for the most part. Wonder how many drives a bullet can destroy... certainly it depends on the bullet - and the drives. Hmmmm one of those 3.5" into a 5 1/4" enclosure. Leave out a drive or two, and stick the bullet in there. Love you guys.

April 15, 20179 yr +1 Yes. full drive encryption or full share encryption. if i look at files via mounted share they would appear un-encrypted. what ever key is used would need to be provided to mount share.
