Can anyone pass me a link of a guide for setting up vlan´s for VMs in Unraid (only found something about passing through a whole physical NIC)?

    Hi, sorry for not answering before. Maybe I missed something. I will try to explain my thoughts.

     

    Each VM and Unraid itself share the same bandwith available.

     

    If you use a VLAN for each VM you improve:

    -the collision of broadcast messenges in the LAN, since you isolate the broadcast domains (for each port of my router)

    -the bandwith available for each VM since you define for each VM a specific bandwith assigned to a port (router)

    -security: a VM can connect only to the assigned port (router)

     

    What I am not sure yet is if passing-through a whole physical NIC to a VM is better in terms of performance or not.

     

    Assumption is if I isolated the LAN-traffic of the array/VM´s the LAN performance is better?
