January 12, 20179 yr I've just built my first Unraid server and I've run across a question I don't see answered in any threads I could find. I have 4 x 4GB DDR3 sticks in this system. The BIOS reports 16GB, and Unraid reports 16GB installed, 8GB allocated. Free from the CLI indicates there is only 8GB available, as does the "System Stats" plug in. Is there something I need to do in order to have the additional 8GB allocated or am I misunderstanding how memory is used in Unraid? I've attached the diag.zip just in case it's of use. tower-diagnostics-20170111-2052.zip
January 12, 20179 yr I did a search on memory and found this thread. Might be a similar problem...http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=53811.msg515715#msg515715
January 12, 20179 yr unRAID is only seeing 8 GB: Jan 10 14:43:32 Tower kernel: Memory: 8098432K/8378484K available (6321K kernel code, 678K rwdata, 2112K rodata, 924K init, 604K bss, 280052K reserved, 0K cma-reserved) and total used free shared buff/cache available Mem: 8043 625 233 607 7184 6301 Swap: 0 0 0 Total: 8043 625 233 Your BIOS is dated 2011. It might be worth checking for a newer one. Are your brand/model of DIMMs on the motherboard manufacturer's qualified memory list? Have you tried re-seating them or swapping them around? Try removing a pair of them and seeing whether unRAID sees the full 8 GB or only half.
January 12, 20179 yr Author Problem solved, although don't ask me exactly what I did to fix it. As the previous poster said, Unraid was only seeing 8GB. Unfortunately for some reason it wasn't consistent in what it reported, several locations in the interface, including the dashboard showed 16GB. My BIOS also reported 16GB. The steps I took to resolve: 1. Powered down, removed the memory and blew the sockets clear with compressed air. 2. Re-installed two of four DIMMS checked boot and BIOS, both good and showing 8GB 3. Repeated step 2 for the other set, same results 4. Re-installed all four DIMMS, but did switchup the socket pairing, ran Memtest overnight, no errors 5. Booted Unraid, 16GB showing available, 16GB showing allocated. So one of the above fixed the problem, thanks for the link to that other thread DigitalDivide, I'd missed that one and it sounds as though he had the same issue I did.
