January 13, 20179 yr Is there a way to see why unraid randomly rebooted? i tried looking at the syslog but seems like that clears up old stuff when restarts. If it means anything im still on trial key with 23 days left.

Random reboots are generally caused by either power or memory issues
January 13, 20179 yr Author Thank you, i installed it but it didnt find anything. I wonder if its cause i restarted it and been using it.

Is this a setting i have? Like i just started it an array isnt started but my free memory is already 200mb free. 22.32 cached and 1.79 gb used. Not sure what these values mean entirely.

Free memory will always (and should) look low due to how linux works (http://www.linuxatemyram.com/) What appears on the dashboard (%) is however accurate as it ignores the cached memory But, if the dashboard value continually rises then you might have a misconfigured docker container (although the symptoms of this are usually the docker.img utilization increases) Beyond that, docker programs can and will use available ram for their own purposes.
January 13, 20179 yr Author When I had this Exact issue my Power Supply was dieing. Just an FYI of course. It might also be my drives over heating. I have a 1000W PSU in there that i install less than year ago. Unraid i was running windows server with Hyper v and alot more machines on it with no symptoms like this. It literally started when i started using Unraid. So possible causes im thinking while looking at server is hd over heating and auto reboot out of safety. Maybe its a bios setting. Cache drive filling up and causing a reboot. Or dockers using to much resources causing a reboot. I remember there was a page that displayed the cpu/memory/disk usage of dockers but i cant find anymore.

January 13, 20179 yr Community Expert ... Cache drive filling up and causing a reboot. Or dockers using to much resources causing a reboot... And I would be surprised if you would get a reboot from these either. These would be more likely to cause problems with the way things are working or possibly just cause it to hang requiring you to manually reboot. Is your server on an UPS? Is your BIOS set to restart after a power failure (which I don't recommend)?

I noticed i had plex running and cpu's were at max OMG you are a genius tho! that has to be the issue. damn this room being too hot

And CPU overheating would cause shutdown, not reboot AFAIK.

January 13, 20179 yr I have my computer setup to that it turns back on if theres power available. I would change that if I were you. There are very few scenarios that automatically booting back up after an unplanned powerdown is a good idea. Typically you would want to be alerted to the situation so you can start it back up while babysitting it, to determine whether or not more intervention is needed to prevent data loss. Computers in general do NOT like to be cut off without notice, data corruption is highly likely when it happens. You may not notice right away, and if you aren't even aware that the unplanned shutdown happened, you could try to continue adding data and worsening the situation.
January 13, 20179 yr Community Expert I have my computer setup to that it turns back on if theres power available. That answers one question: Is your server on an UPS? Is your BIOS set to restart after a power failure (which I don't recommend)? Since it is set to restart when power is available, losing power seems a likely reason for reboots.
