January 15, 20179 yr Hello, first of all, I wanted to say thank you for this amazing OS. I have recently came from windows, and have been playing with this os for about a week now, so I am very very new to all the new lingo, and how everything work, and this is my first post here. I have researched a bit but can not find exactly what I am looking for, honestly I think I am looking in the wrong place. I am looking to move a disk drive from my 3 disk array, to be used as a parity drive. I am looking to move my disk 2 from the array to be a parity drive, but can not find a guide to do so. i don't want to lose my data in the array, and will have enough remaining space after deleting the drive from the 3 disk array, to be used as the parity drive. i have included a picture. Please help, thank you.
January 15, 20179 yr Over the network: Enable disk shares (Settings - global disk settings) Copy the files from disk2 to disk1 (and disk3) Once the disk is empty, Tools - New config and assign the disks appropriately Locally, easiest way would be to either use midnight command (mc) or ideally the Krusader or Dolphin docker apps. And then do the same thing. Just whatever you do don't mix using disk shares and user shares. Only use disk shares to do this, otherwise you will corrupt your files
January 15, 20179 yr Manually move all the data that is currently on disk2 to the other disks, the unBalance plugin should help there, but it's not a built in function of unraid. After disk2 is empty, set a new config and assign the drives how you want them. Any drive assigned to the parity slot will be completely overwritten, so make sure there is nothing left that you want on that disk.

I think I have ran into a problem with the unBalanace plugin. When i select the disk to move from, and click calculate. I get this. There are some permission issues with the folders/files you want to move 1087 file(s)/folder(s) with an owner other than 'nobody' 1086 file(s)/folder(s) with a group other than 'users' 200 folder(s) with a permission other than 'drwxrwxrwx' 2566 files(s) with a permission other than '-rw-rw-rw-' or '-r--r--r--' You can find more details about which files have issues in the log file (/boot/logs/unbalance.log) At this point, you can move the folders/files if you want, but be advised that it can cause errors in the operation You are STRONGLY suggested to install the Fix Common Problems plugin, then run the Docker Safe New Permissions command

January 15, 20179 yr Author the goal now is to move all the files from disk 2 to disk 1 & 3 then do a new config, correct?
January 16, 20179 yr Author I have moved all the files, but 3 folders remain that are empty. Is it ok to proceed with the new config? I am unable to delete this folders over the network.
January 16, 20179 yr Author Ok, I am a bit worried to do this. I do not want to lose the data on my disks 1 & 3. here is my array devices. and here is the options I have in new config. How do I proceed so that I do not lose my data. Thank you.
January 17, 20179 yr Community Expert Retain none is fine. The other options are there just to make it remember some or all of your assignments so you won't have so much reassigning to do if you have a large number of disks. You can still change them before starting. You probably want to keep 606K as disk1, assign MQH7 to parity, assign 7904 as disk2. Don't check the box saying parity is already valid, since building parity is the whole point of your changes. Then it should say Start will build parity or something like that. Post another screenshot if you are unsure.
January 17, 20179 yr Author Thank you for this help. I am now having an issue with my shares & disks. When I moved files from disk2 to disk 3. The files are no longer showing in the share, this has caused my plex to remove hundreds of tv & movies. I can see the files in disk 1 & 2 but, not in the share folder media.
