January 17, 20179 yr Looking for good compatible gigabit NIC recommendation for a home built UnRAID server I've been running for about 5 or 6 years. I've been limping along this whole time with the on board 10/100 interface and I'm fed up with the slow transfers, so I'm finally going to upgrade. Thanks
January 17, 20179 yr Author Thanks. It seems like the Intel PWLA8391GTL is pretty highly rated and reasonably priced.
January 18, 20179 yr Hi is the Intel PWLA8391GTL not a 1gbe ? would that not be the same speeds as your getting now, unless am totally missing something eg your bonding 2 together or something ? would a 10Gbe setup be better like the one below i got posted http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SET-2x-long-HP-671798-10GbE-Cisco-2-5m-10Gbit-10Gbase-Ethernet-10Gigabit-10G-/152323217727?hash=item23772bd93f:g:PLUAAOSwJQdW~V5c thanks

The op has a fast ethernet onboard connection (100mbps). Assuming the router/switch they are using is gigabit, then they will achieve faster transfer speeds on the network. the 10gbe setup you posted would only be point to point (between the server and computer) and have no direct network access at 10gbe speeds unless you buy a 10gbe switch to connect them.
January 18, 20179 yr You might consider replacing the motherboard / CPU with something more modern. It's been a LONG time since MBs came with 10/100! Used to be a slow cpu was recommended as unRaid was just a nas and didn't need strong processing performance. But how times have changed! An updated motherboard, CPU, and generous memory compliment would open up a whole new world to you with your unRaid server.
