January 17, 20179 yr Why can't unRAID allow more parity disk for even more protection and reliability. If you have large array like 24+ disk with 2-10TB disks (as hdds get cheaper). it seems like it would be handy to have more than 2 parity disks as you risk of multiple simultaneous drive failures goes up with larger arrays. EDIT: I assume it may be related tothe 24/26 device limit. which is some sort of technical limitation?
January 17, 20179 yr Community Expert Probably not that much demand for it. Some were running a large number of disks on just 1 parity before v6 allowed 2 parity, and with larger drive sizes many people are running fewer drives. One possible workaround is to have multiple servers with fewer drives and let them mount each others shares with Unassigned Devices. Maybe someday more parity will be available. But if you pay attention and don't let things degrade to the point that you have more than 2 simultaneous failures, 2 parity may be enough. V6 makes it a lot easier to pay attention with Notifications. And you should have backups of important files regardless of how many parities you have.
