January 22, 20179 yr Been a long time since tinkered with my unraid setup been running great for a while now. I needed to add in some new 2tb red drives and thought I would take a look to see about updating to the new OS. I read through the wiki and think I am on the right path just wanted a few suggestions if my hardware should be good enough or if I should upgrade anything. My processor looks like it is okay for 64 bit. unRAID Version: unRAID Server Pro, Version 5.0.4 Motherboard: ASRock - B75 Pro3-M Processor: Intel® Celeron® CPU G550 @ 2.60GHz Memory: 4096 MB (max. 32 GB) BANK 0 = 2048 MB, 1067 MHz BANK 1 = No Module Installed, Unknown BANK 2 = 2048 MB, 1067 MHz BANK 3 = No Module Installed, Unknown I think I will probably go the route of "alternate no format" but havent decided. In the process now of taking screen shots of everything. Looking forward to the getting familar with some of the settings again ha. One last thing does it make sense to add the two new drives now, or wait to upgrade complete? Thanks
January 22, 20179 yr Community Expert One last thing does it make sense to add the two new drives now, or wait to upgrade complete? Wait till after the upgrade so you can make the new drives XFS instead of ReiserFS.

I dont want to have to reformat all the data in order to changes the structure unless I missed something?
January 22, 20179 yr Community Expert Can I mix the ReiserFS and XFS drives in the array? I dont want to have to reformat all the data in order to changes the structure unless I missed something? YES! You can have both formats in the array at the same time. (I know that I do!) In fact, very few folks have converted their old drives from reiserfs to xfs because it takes a lot of time (and effort) and has some risk involved.
January 22, 20179 yr Community Expert I'm not sure it's clear that very few people have converted. And some have definitely found the effort worthwhile. Possibly a "silent" majority haven't converted but who knows? You can leave that till later though.
January 22, 20179 yr Author Thanks for replies....related to other hardware should I be good going forward. Thinking this will be my sunday project. I really on plan on running, sab, sonarr, plex server as plugin/dockers. It pushes out to several kodi boxes in the house and plex off site. Never had any hardware issues with v5 just making sure there is no holes in the setup for v6.

Do you mean you are currently running all of that on v5, or is some of that things you want to add with v6? You might do better with more RAM.
January 22, 20179 yr I'd give it a try with what you have. Both CPU and RAM are Ok but could be a little light for what you want to do. If you upgrade either one, though, you might feel locked into this motherboard. Give it a try with these components, see how it goes, and then decide.

January 22, 20179 yr Author How stable is the 6.3 newest version? Should I use that or one of the others?

January 22, 20179 yr Community Expert How stable is the 6.3 newest version? Should I use that or one of the others? IMHO 6.3RC6 is rock solid +1 (I will be upgrading my Media Server early this week to 6.3rc6.)
January 23, 20179 yr 6.2.4 was early November, 6.3.0-rc6 was early December. That seems long enough to call it stable, especially with its good history so far. While as an RC it hasn't had the testing that 6.2.4 has had, it's had very few complaints. Plus, it has more patches, so I think it could be called the most secure unRAID version currently. I think it's time we start recommending it more, stable and more secure. It would be nice to see another release though, with more security patches.
January 23, 20179 yr Author Thanks for help today....got the system updated no issues there, went ahead and did the flash drive from scratch but added some config files back in. I just need to do some more reading on dockers I had no luck trying to get those setup but could be I was basing too much info off of Phazes v5 plugins and trying to point folders to the same areas as before and using back up files for settings. Couldnt get anything talking with each other. So i went ahead and re setup Phazes plugins and was able to use all my screenshots word for word and at least up and running automatic things as were now. I will probably move over to dockers once I do some more reading.
January 23, 20179 yr Lookup community applications plugin by Squid. The capabilities are pretty awesome for backup/recovery of CA plugins. You can delete your docker image and rebuild your servers in minutes.
January 23, 20179 yr 1. Your Hardware is ok - i am using the same Board but in the future, you will maybe upgrade your CPU 2. I converted all my drives to XFS. Took a long time but worth it. - and yes, "after" the upgrade to v6. 3. One thing regarding the Onboard-NIC: In my case not working properly so i used an additional Intel Pro 1000GT NIC.

They just know about container paths. Volume mappings is how you get host paths "mapped" to container paths.
