January 23, 20179 yr Community Expert I have since rebooted the server twice after changing the /mnt/user permissions and they have stuck. Is the user folder somewhere on the drives themselves when the array is stopped or is this all virtual stuff in memory once the array is started? When you start the array is it looking at the drives and applying the permissions it finds, or is it pulling out of a config file or some such store on the flash drive? Just asking because I'm curious as to how its now remembering the permissions the way they are now and the way they were before, between reboots. The mount points are created in memory each time the array starts with the correct permissions. What gets mounted there are the actual disks for the /mnt/disk#, and the aggregate of the top level folders from all disks for the /mnt/user. And the actual folders and files on the disks have permissions. You could say that the permissions are stored as part of each file/folder, but not as part of the contents of each file/folder.
