January 28, 20179 yr Hi All, I build another small server for my brother. We added some older disk in it and it was working oke. But now 1 disk is disabled. So i removed it from the array start a new config with lesser disks. This was oke and now another disk is showing disabled. Both of them are 1,5TB Samsung disks i have had for a couple of years. Can you tell me if its the server or cables or that its a problem with the disk itself? Attached i have added the Smart report for the drive that was just going in disabled mode. For the other i had started a preclear to see what happend. But after a couple of minutes in the progress it was just missing at all. Iam really wondering if its the server or the disks that are causing the trouble. Any idea? Thnx. SAMSUNG_HD154UI_S1XWJ1MSB01838-20170128-1308.txt
January 28, 20179 yr Community Expert It has one pending sector. You can try to correct that by preclearing it. Connections problems are much more common than bad disks. Don't bundle your SATA cables, it just causes stress at the connection points that results in loose or misaligned connections. We can't tell you anything else since you haven't really given us anything to go on. Please go to Tools - Diagnostics and post your complete diagnostics zip next time.
January 28, 20179 yr Author Oke, i have added the diagnosticz zip too. The disks have always run without problems in my server. I have started the preclear for all the other samsung disks. mini-diagnostics-20170128-1350.zip
January 29, 20179 yr Author hmm i had started preclear on all 4 samsung drives. And all 4 went missing. They are all attached to a Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8. Maybe that is not oke, or the cables are not. its kind of weird suddenly all 4 disk are gone. I will investigate some more. mini-diagnostics-20170129-1752.zip
January 29, 20179 yr All four disks fell off-line together. It's not really weird because they have the SAS controller in common. Are they all on the same SAS port? Check the breakout cable and reseat both the SAS end and the SATA ends. You might want to try moving it to the other port. Check that the card is seated squarely in the PCIe socket. I often find that I need to bend the bracket slightly to get the card to sit squarely when the screw is tightened.
