March 10, 201016 yr I am thinking of upgrading my unraid hardware (case, backplanes, and motherboard) and was wondering if there are any tips you can give me on the easiest and smoothest way possible of doing this. I recently changed all of my sata cables for ones with 90 degree connections, and when I rebooted my server, it didn't start the array because I had mistakenly plugged my hard drives into different sata ports on the motherboard. I was able to figure out the right connection and everything was fine. It just makes me wary of upgrading my motherboard, only to find upon boot that unRAID won't be able to start the array because the configuration is different. How have any of you gone about this? Thanks!
March 10, 201016 yr Make a screen print of the devices assignment page after you switch around the hardware, if the array does not start beause the disks are now on different ports, go to the devices page and put the disks back on their original assigned slots in the array. It is that simple.
March 11, 201016 yr Joe L. has it in a nutshell. For a detailed overview of the process, see the wiki: What is the safe way to rearrange disk numbers, assignments, slots, etc.?
