January 28, 20179 yr Currently have two media centres in the house (Intel NUCs) Is it possible to put a GPU in the main unraid server (thinking GTX 950 for HEVC support), and then having a VM with a HDMI cable from that to my lounge TV, thus removing the need for a dedicated HTPC Would this work? If so, would it be possible to have another VM outputting to the bedroom using the same GPU? I've a new 4k TV arriving, and replacing my NUC with a Kaby Lake one would cost me around £400+ thanks
January 28, 20179 yr Why are you replacing the nuk's? Have you got loads of 4K content to watch on your new TV or are you anticipating having loads of 4K content to watch? If I were you, I would wait awhile, there are already a few 4K capable media players on the market and I expect there will be a lot more in the next six to eight months. In answer to your query, you could do that with a VM, but you can only output one video card to one TV, you would need a second VM and a second video card to output to a second TV. Also you would need long cables with converters.
January 28, 20179 yr Author Hey man, thanks for the reply No, the only reason for changing was simply to remove having to have media players in the rooms and tidy them up Looks like it might be best to wait then. I have a few 4k movies i was going to try on the new TV, but my current media player won't play them due to only having a dual core celeron, and HDMI 1.4, so i thought its either a Kaby Lake NUC with hardware HEVC 10 bit support, or a GPU with the same outputting via VM
