High Definition Audio Bus not working with AMD graphics card

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I've set up a Windows 10 VM on a SeaBIOS and was all working fine with the hardware I have (Gigabyte H77M-D3H, i7 2600, AMD Radeon HD 6950) when outputting to my TV via HDMI.

I rebooted the VM and now I'm not getting any audio coming out of the TV. I've checked device manager and I can see that the 'High Definition Audio Bus' is not starting. The device status shows 'This device cannot start. (Code 10)' and '{Operation Failed} The requested operation was unsuccessful'.

I've done lots of Googling but cant seem to find any answers. Obviously the latest drivers are installed and Windows seems to think the best drivers are installed for the High Definition Audio Bus.

Any idea of how to resolve this?

Cheers

Also tried creating a new VM (this time with OVMF BIOS) and a fresh install of Windows and still has the same issue.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Some GPU's don't like soft resets (that is rebooting the VM, not the entire serve) as this might not properly re-init the GPU.

If you haven't already, try rebooting the server then starting the VM.

I had tried multiple hard reboots previously and it didn't work. Just tried another and the sound is back.

Any recommendations for a simple HTPC card that works well with shutting down and rebooting VM's?

Cheers
