Any alternatives to Supermicro X7SBE?

Featured Replies

Sorry I originally posted this on hardware forum, though it's more of a motherboard related topic... I was planning to build a second unraid system using the same Supermicro motherboard I used in the first one (X7SBE).  Unfortunately, no one seems to keep this motherboard in stock anymore in Canada.

I can still find the X7SBA, which seems very much the same board?? Did anyone try this board? The Limetech new official C2SEE does not have any PCI-X slots, which I needed for the AOC-SAT2-MV8 card. I guess a related question is: is there a PCI-E equivalent, in terms of value and reliability, of the AOC-SAT2-MV8?

I also love my X7SBE and its pci-x

otherwise.. i would build around a C2SEE or C2CEA if you cannot find the X7SBE in canada (you could also order direct from supermicro perhaps).  I have not tried the X7SBA

the PCI-E equavilant of that pci-x card is the AOC-SASLP-MV8 , and as of 4.5.3 it now works with unraid.

Did a bit of searching, and I think that the main (only?) difference is that the SBA has only 2 PCI-X slots, vs the 4 slots of the SBE. That's fine with me, so I ordered one. I'll post back with the results.

Great news. I did not realize that that Supermicro SAS card was now supported, it was hanging for long time.

If you look one thread up you will see a link in the thread to another board that may suit your needs.  It has 2 x8 and 1 x4 PCIe slot so the PCIe version of the supermicro card would work great with the newest version of unRAID.
