Preclear plugin

Recommended Posts

I just checked in the config/plugins/preclear.disk folder, there is a ncurses-5.9-x86_64-2.txz file with a date of 5/7/2013.

Can you try reinstall this package and run a preclear test to see if the bug occur again?

Not at the present time.  I am running a preclear (three cycles) on a 3TB drive.  I will do it when I get that drive done (Guessing Saturday) and installed as the new parity drive on my Test Bed server .

Just to double check what you want done.  I assume you want me to uninstall the plugin and then reinstall it.  Or did you want me to empty the config/plugins/preclear.disk folder also? (I do have a 1TB drive that I can use for a test.)

OK. Did two things:  First, updated to version 6.0.2. Second, uninstall Preclear Plugin and reinstalled the package.

You can see what I am getting in the Popup window.  I am running Firefox 40.0.3 on a windows 7 computer.

What I observed was that the popup screen kept getting longer and longer as the first refreshes of the the displayed data occurred.  Then it stopped adding more info to the displayed text and simply updated each set of information within the window as it refreshed.  (Notice the change in the progress of each set.)  It appears that something is wrong in screen refresh logic early in the testing sequence.

EDIT:  The reports were all correctly formatted so this is a cosmetic issue more than anything else but I would imagine that it makes for a somewhat ungainly display on any device with a small display resolution.  (Mine is a 2560x1600)

I have been using this preclear package from the beginning. Including all versions of Unraid 6.

My current version is  v6.1.2

The only problem I ever experienced was it would take 10 or 20 clicks of the Start button to start the plugin and just as many to the X button to stop the plugin.

I just did two consecutive updates 2015.09.18 and then 2015.09.19a  and now get this error message

tput: unknown terminal "stream"

I do have stream installed via the Unmenu Package Manager

The latest version 2015.09.20 fixed the errors

Are you running the latest version?

I was not... somehow I missed the latest upgrade.... I have upgraded, but it still shows the issue. I assume its because I started the process on the older x.18 version. Do you think this is why?

Thank you.

I just updated to 2015.09.20 . I don't know if it will affect current or only future instances.

Working perfectly right now... Many many thanks for this!! This is how the pre-clear process should be...  :D

Thanks for your feedback, Frank1940!

Today I've made real use of this plugin, because I haven't expanded the array in a while. I must say it has a breeze! ;D ;D ;D ;D

I am new to UnRaid, I just built my server yesterday in fact and I am trying to get the pre clear working, however a pop up shows up every time I try to use the plugin and is asking for a Yes or No prompt and I cannot seem to figure out how to enter Yes so the pre clear will continue. Do I need to modify the script or something? I am not terribly proficient with Linux but could probably do it.

Thanks

I am new to UnRaid, I just built my server yesterday in fact and I am trying to get the pre clear working, however a pop up shows up every time I try to use the plugin and is asking for a Yes or No prompt and I cannot seem to figure out how to enter Yes so the pre clear will continue. Do I need to modify the script or something? I am not terribly proficient with Linux but could probably do it.

Thanks

AM

Did you install the Preclear Plugin using the instructions in the first post of this thread?  Or you you running the preclear script from the command line either on a monitor or a telnet session?

This plugin is actually started from the GUI on the 'Settings' page.  You will find the 'Preclear Disk' icon near the bottom of the screen.

I don't see the "mail" option when I start a pre-clear?  I see it as an option in video... but not in my options?

I get the mail notifications for other stuff like array health and what not..

If you're using Joe L. version, you don't. The reason is that the "mail" command used before unRAID 6 could interfere with the built-in Notification system. I've adapted the new system into preclear_disk and submit it here, but there's no response from Joe L.

In the mean time, you can use bjp999 version of the script that's stored on my github:

There's a version hosted here: http://bit.ly/1G44UhZ . This version have fast post-read and notifications enabled.

You can add this with this command:

wget http://bit.ly/1G44UhZ -O /boot/config/plugins/preclear.disk/preclear_disk.sh

readvz is already downloaded by the plugin.

Ok..  I think it's running now.  Thanks!

FYI....  I get this error when running the script..

/boot/config/plugins/preclear.disk/preclear_disk.sh  -M 4 -o 2 -c 1 -f -J /dev/sdl
root@Tower:/usr/local/emhttp# /boot/config/plugins/preclear.disk/preclear_disk.sh  -M 4 -o 2 -c 1 -f -J /dev/sdl
/boot/config/plugins/preclear.disk/preclear_disk.sh: line 635: [: missing `]'

The program is running..  but I got this error when it started.

Is there a fix for this small problem

I am using Chrome as my browser

I have a difficult time getting the Plugin to run after it starts

It takes 10 or 20 or more clicks of the Start button to start the plugin and just as many to the X button to stop the plugin.

I"m running chrome and it works just fine for me?

I couldn't replicate this behaviour, using Chrome/FF/IE/Edge. Maybe you have an extension that is messing with the code anyhow.

By the way, a 5 second interval before the status window opens is normal.
