Win 10 VM, keeps failing to install update 1607

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I have a Win10 VM setup for my gaming rig, and i am trying to do windows updates.  It is trying to install version 1607.  It installs, then reboots, and when it tries to boot I get a stop error.  I did a bunch of research and alot of people were saying that it is because there is a missing driver somewhere.  I checked and I had 1 missing driver.  Installed the driver and rebooted, then i tried the Windows update again, I still get the Stop Error.  Has anyone else had this issue and been able to fix it?

Thanks!!

Your Vm has cpu0 only assigned? If not, give it a try...

i have CPU0 unassigned and i have other cores assigned to the VM.  Is that what you mean?

Here is my CPU setup on the VM

<vcpu placement='static'>8</vcpu>
  <cputune>
    <vcpupin vcpu='0' cpuset='9'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='1' cpuset='10'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='2' cpuset='11'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='3' cpuset='12'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='4' cpuset='25'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='5' cpuset='26'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='6' cpuset='27'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='7' cpuset='28'/>
  </cputune>

Added CPU0, and get the same Stop Error.

Which guide are you referring to?  VM FAQ?

To make sure I am doing this right, do i need to ONLY have CPU0 assigned to the VM and remove all the others i currently have assigned, or just add CPU0 to my existing CPU configuration?

Thanks for the help guys!

Hey,

I have the same issue with upgrading to 1607 version,

tried using only cpu0 but it keeps crashing my system.

any ideas?

crashing means freezing.

but not just the vm...

all the machine is stuck.

cannot ping it nor ssh it.

only thing I can do is pressing the shutdown button or the reset button.

I didnt have that, but i found that using the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant  worked better for me.  You may want to try that.
